Employee
Leasing Guide
When
you’ve made the decision that you want to
use employee leasing for your business, you have
to decide which PEO is right for you. Most employee
leasing businesses offer free quotes, so don’t
be afraid to take advantage of this service. Asking questions,
no matter how simple they seem, is important,
so ask anything that comes to mind.
Some
guidelines to keep in mind are:
• Are they licensed and certified to act
as a PEO in your state?
Some employee leasing agencies are only certified
in specific states.
•
Can they provide professional references?
Without references, it is hard to get a feel
for how they treat other companies.
•
Will they provide you with a financial statement?
Make certain your money is safe; this is an
investment in your business.
•
Are they a member of NAPEO, the national trade
association of PEOs?
While not essential, this membership can make a big difference
in ensuring you are treated fairly and professionally.
•
What guarantees do they offer?
Ask about guarantees so you know what to do
if complications arise and need solutions.
•
What responsibilities are yours and what are
theirs?
Understand what the employee leasing company
needs from you and what you get in return.
•
Does the company fit your employees?
A white collar PEO may not be a good fit for
a blue collar company.
•
Have they worked in your industry before?
If they do not understand how your industry
works, there could be complications and bad
communication.
•
Are their insurance carriers allowed to operate
in your state?
Insurance companies are very specific; make
certain the ones they use will cover all the
states in which your employees work.
•
How do they handle risk management?
Will they work with you on a set of regulations
and provide signage, or is it predetermined?
Find what works best for you.
While
not exhaustive, these are some of the heavier
questions to ask. Trust your instincts; if a company
sounds too good to be true, then it probably is, and
entering into a partnership with an employee
leasing company must make you comfortable.
If you are not satisfied with the answers, keep
looking. There is sure to be a PEO that is a good
fit for you.
